Meena (Mala Sinha) and Mahesh (Rajendra Kumar) meet and fall in love. They plan to marry but Mahesh's father has other ideas, forcing his son to marry Malti (Nanda) instead. Meena, meanwhile, gives birth to her and Mahesh's son, but the stress of having an illegitimate child leads her to desert him.
Years later, the boy performs a criminal act that results in his punishment being left in the hands of a judge who is actually his father. How will Mahesh's judgement be influenced when he learns that the thief is his son?
