Yimou Zhang directs this Chinese black comedy thriller based on the film Blood Simple. Noodle shop owner Wang (Dahong Ni) is a lazy, mean-spirited man who treats his young wife (Ni Yan) with contempt. Sick of his bullying ways, his wife buys a gun from a travelling merchant and asks her lover (Xiao Shen-yang) to shoot her husband with it. Unbeknownst to her, however, the husband has already recruited a contract killer to murder both her and her lover - but to confuse matters even further, the hitman turns out to have a homicidal agenda of his own.
