“Films from Europe and further afield are still considered an art form, their success defined in artistic terms rather than box office receipts. I believe great art emanates from a singular artistic vision, and this is what the best of world cinema offers. Although I enjoy much of American and British cinema, the directors I admire tend to belong more to this tradition (such as a Terence Malick or a Harmony Korine). World cinema also tends not to suffer from the commercialism and parochialism I find in much US/UK cinema.”
